The Polish Parasitological Society (PPS) is one of the oldest scientific societies in Poland. It was founded at the first congress in Gdańsk, Poland on May 16-18, 1948. At that time, it had 80 members, including 36 parasitologists. The current PPS has over 300 members representing various fields of science: biology, chemistry, pharmacy, medicine, agriculture and veterinary. There are 11 PPS Branches in Poland in academic centers in Białystok, Gdańsk, Katowice, Kraków, Lublin, Łódź, Olsztyn, Poznań, Szczecin, Wrocław, and Warsaw. The PPS is a member of the World Federation of Parasitologists (WFP) and the European Federation of Parasitologists (EFP). It played a significant role in the establishment of both federations (WFP in 1960 in Warsaw and EFP in 1965 in Jabłonna).

The scientific community of Polish parasitologists in Olsztyn is associated with such names as: Professor Eugeniusz Grabda (ichthyoparasitologist, Rector of Agricultural University in Olsztyn), Professor Stefan Tarczyński (co-founder of veterinary medicine in Olsztyn), Professor Konstanty Romaniuk, Professor Zbigniew Jabłonowski , Professor Teresa Wlasow, Professor Krystyna Żółtowska, and Professor Ewa Dzika. Every year, members of the PPS organize scientific conferences (e.g., "Clinical Days of Medical Parasitology" in Łódź) and numerous training for the staff of diagnostic laboratories. There are many significant names among Polish parasitologists. Some of them are commemorated in the names of institutions, awards and medals: W. Stefański Institute of Parasitology of the PAS, medal of Konstanty Janicki, award of Witold Kasprzak, award of Witold Stefański. The scientific journal "Annals of Parasitology" is published under the aegis of the Society. PPS members also edit the journal "Acta Parasitologica".
 
Every 3 years, PPS organizes an international congress. Olsztyn hosted the 7th PPS Congress in 1961 (286 participants) and the 18th Congress, combined with the 50th anniversary of the PPS in 1998 (over 300 participants). In September 2022, Olsztyn will host the 26th PTP Congress.

For the third time in its history, members of the Olsztyn Branch of PPS cordially invite you to deliberations and lectures on parasitology at the facilities of the magnificent campus of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn.
