  3. Bishop's Castle in Lidzbark Warmiński. The gothic castle in Lidzbark is sometimes called the Wawel of the North. This title, although lofty, is by no means exaggerated. The building delights both with its shape and architectural decorations of the chambers: various stellar vaults, paintings, and portals. The pride of the residence is a two-story inner courtyard surrounded by charming cloisters (the only one in Poland that has been preserved intact). On the second level of the cloisters, frescoes from the 14th century can be seen. From 1350 to 1795, over a dozen Warmian bishops resided in the castle. The most famous of them was Ignacy Krasicki, who created his most outstanding works here. Cardinal Stanisław Hozjusz also resided in the castle. The most famous resident, however, was Nicolaus Copernicus. In the chambers of the Lidzbark castle, during a meeting with King Charles XII of Sweden, Stanisław Leszczyński was nominated for the Polish throne. One of the most important battles of the Napoleonic Wars took place near the city: the Battle of Heiselberg (June 10, 1807), in which Napoleon Bonaparte himself participated. About 180,000 fought in this battle. soldiers, of which nearly 20 thousand were killed. Even though the clash remained unresolved, it became famous for both armies for a long time. The skirmish was captured on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. (about 50 km north of Olsztyn, GPS: 54 ° 07′32.74 ″ N 20 ° 34′58.28 ″ E)

  4. Reszel Castle. In addition to the paintings gallery, we can see temporary exhibitions. One of them is the Torture Exhibition, with 50 exhibits showing medieval pain tools. The exhibition refers to the event that took place on August 21, 1811. It was then that the last witch in Europe was burned at the stake in Reszel. It was Barbara Zdunk, who was accused of causing fires with witchcraft. Before that, she had been imprisoned and tortured in the Ryszard Castle for 4 years (GPS: 54 ° 02′54.07 ″ N 21 ° 08′52.17 ″ E)

  5. Święta Lipka Sanctuary (Holy Linden). The Basilica of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Święta Lipka is a pearl of the Baroque style that differs from the simple decoration of Protestant churches in East Prussia. Erected on 10 thousand alder stilts, the temple is picturesquely situated in a valley between lakes, against the background of forests. In the middle of the temple there are 8 smaller altars, decorated with noble species of trees and a three-story main altar with sculptures of various saints "enchanted in motion". On the left side of the main entrance, you can see a carved wood trunk, symbolizing an ancient linden tree that may have actually grown here. The sculpture was created in 1728. The silver figurine placed on it comes from 1652. The numerous votive offerings hanging on the trunk are gifts of people in gratitude for the favors received.
